Challenges

Keep on keeping on

Today,I received an email from an old friend, whom I have never met. We began an internet friendship in 2001, when I was paddling down the west coast of Africa and generating grassroots support for the International Conference Against Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance. I dare not identify him, for he is a high government official, in an African country, an Anglican priest, but a kindred spirit.
.

In today's email, he said "....WE ARE ENJOYING A BIT OF DEMOCRACY NOW AND BELEIVE ME. I WILL KEEP ON KEEPING ON " I thought about this, on my daily two hour hike through the forest. Before long, I pulled up the lyrics to Curtis Mayfield's 1972 song, from somewhere deep in memory. (My apologies to Mr. Mayfield, if I don't have it exactly right.)

Everybody gather round and listen to my song,
I've only got one.
We who are young, should now take a stand,
Don't run from the burdens of women and men,
Continue to give, conti nue to live
For what you know is right.
Most of your life can be out of sight,
Withdraw from the darkness and look to the light;
Where everyone's free, least that's the way it's
Supposed to be.
And we just keep on keeping on
We just keep on keeping on
Many think that we have blown it
But they too will soon admit
That there's still a lot of love among us
And there's still a lot of faith and warmth and trust.
When we keep on keeping on.
Before we dis miss, one thing I in sist
When you have your young, remember this song,
And our world su rrounding, its leaps and and bounds,
Ups and downs, is reali ty
Teach them to be strong, and when they are grown,
They can proudly imply that we were an alright guy,
For all the wrong now is right and this nations people united
As one.
And we just keep on keeping on
We just keep on keeping on
Many think that we have blown it
But they too will soon admit
That there's still a lot of love among us
And there's still a lot of faith and warmth and trust
When we keep on keeping on.
We're gonna move on up y'all.
Keep on keeping on.

You are working towards a goal, and everything seems to be going lovely and fine. And then bump! You hit a rock. Your energy decreases and you can not seem to pin point the source of the slump.

How do you keep on keeping on, when you do not feel like keeping on?
You simply keep on keeping on, it is that simple. You keep your purpose close to you, as to why you are doing what you are doing. So what is your purpose? Why are you stretching yourself to achieve your goal? You may need to ask this questions a few times because, often, the first answer can be the answer we think others want. Do nott fool yourself. Hold that purpose firmly in your mind.

In your head envision having achieved your purpose and hold that picture in your mind everyday for at least thirty minutes. Imagine with all your senses, the smell, the taste of it, the look, and the feel of it. Play pretend with your mind and pretend yourself into the goal for which you are striving, as though you are living it.

Throw yourself into your work, into your goal. Change something, anything. Change a system that you are doing that is taking you to your goal, or change the way you view your goal. Perhaps, you need to lighten up. But, change something, and push with all your willpower against the block that is blocking you. Put some grunt into it, you can do it!

And if all this fails (which I doubt it will), remember that the time will pass. You have two choices; you can carry on working toward your goal. OR, you can quit. Either way the time is going to pass, it is up to you to choose which path you take while the time is passing.

Any questions??
